House Speaker Mike Johnson has called for the firing of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle on Thursday after she gave "unsatisfactory answers" in a classified briefing with Congress.
'I'm prepared this morning to call on President Biden to โ to fire โ Director Cheatle... the oversight here, the mistakes, the ineptitude, whatever it is, was inexcusable. We almost lost the life of a former president. And I think there has to be accountability and it begins at the top. This is ridiculous.'
See Johnson's exchange on Fox News here:
One particularly disturbing detail from the oversight committee was that Cheatle was ready to comply with the subpoena, but the Department of Homeland Security under Mayorkas attempted to put a stop to it.
What are they trying to hide?
An earlier Senate briefing also confirmed the Secret Service had flagged the shooter as suspicious more than an hour before the shooting, yet they did nothing.
Then of course, there's this now infamous exchange in which Cheatle said the reason they didn't put security on the nearby roof was because of the "slope" ๐
The reactions to Speaker Johnson, however, didn't seem to have much confidence in him backing up his rhetoric and actually doing something about it:
What do you think? Is Cheatle just a scapegoat? Should Mayorkas be investigated? Was this incompetence, or something far worse?
