Welp.
It's a high bar to be the most dysfunctional nation on the planet, but Haiti has claimed the crown.
Here's video showing one of the bullet holes in the plane's fuselage:
Flying Spirit is already enough of an "experience" without getting shot at!
More from the Miami Herald:
A Spirit-Airlines flight was was struck by gunfire Monday while attempting to land in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The aircraft, which left from Fort Lauderdale, was diverted to an airport in the Dominican Republic where it landed safely, sources told the Miami Herald. At least one person, a flight attendant, was grazed by a bullet, a source said.
Imagine being that flight attendant!
The incident forced the airport authority at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Haiti's capital to ground all commercial flights. Flight tracking showed both Jetblue Airways and Amerijet Cargo planes turning away from Haiti.
Last month, a UN helicopter was hit by gunfire near the airport and was forced to land. No one was injured in that incident.
Haiti is set to appoint a new prime minister today following years of civil war and gang violence that has gripped the nation since the former president was assassinated in 2021. The US State Department has issued a "Do Not Travel" warning about Haiti, warning citizens of the dangers should they choose to visit.
