This is why we can't have nice things, America. Right here we have an 11-year-old youth football player probably being punked by the older kids — they're 13 — and then, just like he sees in the movies and in rap videos, he does the only logical thing to do in this situation and grabs a gun. Sorry for the sarcasm.
Video out of Apopka, Florida:
I seriously can't even.
From TMZ:
According to cops, the incident happened at around 8:20 PM at the Northwest Recreation Complex football field in Apopka ... after the 11-year-old and two other 13-year-old youth football players had gotten into an argument. They say when the child fired off the single round, it hit the others -- catching one in the upper body while clipping another in the arm.
Both boys are expected to recover from their injuries ... a surprising revelation, considering how frantic a woman was in a 911 call placed just seconds after the shot went off.
Seriously, I understand people keep guns under their seat in rough areas, but please tell me why this 11-year-old boy knows exactly where that gun is. Guns are not for kids, and if kids know where they are hidden, they are not hidden. Plus, guns, especially ones owned by parents, should be locked up and not free for the taking.
If you've got a Glock in its case, locked and secured, it should only take you about 10 seconds to unlock it and get your finger on the trigger. Instead, in this instance, a kid was able to freely grab it from under the seat and start shooting within seconds.
If we want to preserve our freedom to own firearms in this country, ladies and gentlemen, we're going to have to do a lot better than this.
