California teenager Kaleb Heng is certainly not going to forget his 18th birthday anytime soon.
On the very first day that he was legally able to play the California lottery, his grandmother gave him a scratcher which turned out to be a very good investment on her part.
(My grandma never gave me a lottery ticket for my birthday, which probably explains why I'm still not a millionaire.)
Heng told the California Lottery:
My mom was driving me to go fishing, and on the way, I scratched it. We had to pull over. It was a million dollars, and I didn't even have an ID yet! We turned around and went home because I had to get an ID before I could even claim the ticket.
This kid wasn't expecting to even play the lottery, much less win it!
The ticket his grandmother gave him was one called "The Perfect Gift!" which was some very accurate marketing in this instance.
Heng said that he plans to use the unexpected winnings to fund his college education and invest in his future. If he continues to live in California, it should last him until the end of the year (maybe)!
