66,000 (!) Ukrainian men returned home from abroad to take part in the fight against the Russian invasion

Whatever else Ukraine may be lacking in its fight against Russian forces, a surfeit of patriotic men is not among them:

Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said on Saturday that 66,224 Ukrainian men had returned from abroad to join the fight against Russia's invasion.

"That's how many men returned from abroad at this moment to defend their country from the horde. These are 12 more combat and motivated brigades! Ukrainians, we are invincible," Reznikov said in an online post.

Ukrainians are fighters, that's for sure.

Those 66,000+ men are also joined by the considerable number of non-Ukrainians who have reportedly joined the fight:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday said that 16,000 foreigners have volunteered to fight for Ukraine against the Russian invasion.

In an emotional video posted to his Telegram channel, Zelensky referred to the "international legion" of 16,000 foreign volunteers he has sought to "join the defense of Ukraine, Europe and the world." The country earlier this week temporarily lifted visa requirements for foreign volunteers who wish to enter the country and join the fight against Russian forces.

Whatever your thoughts on the crisis, you have to have respect for that sort of mass outpouring of both patriotism and international fraternity.

Let's hope it all ends soon, and well.
