Texas county becomes largest yet to ban abortion, including travel for abortion ✊

Just a reminder that there is still much work to be done to fight abortion — and there are still many good people out there doing it:

Three county commissioners approved an ordinance Monday that would bar pregnant Texas women from traveling through the unincorporated area of Lubbock County for an abortion in another state. ...

Lubbock County is now the largest county to weigh in on the policy pushed by anti-abortion activists. It joins three other rural counties — Goliad, Mitchell and Cochran — in Texas that have already passed similar ordinances, despite the state already having one of the most restrictive bans on abortion in the U.S.

The ban doesn't apply to cities within Lubbock County itself, though residents are forbidden to "knowingly transport any individual" through unincorporated areas of the county for the purposes of abortion.

The measure "can only be enforced by private citizens who file lawsuits" if they become aware of a violation of the policy, leaving its legal enforceability somewhat precarious, though no similar bans have been struck down elsewhere.

And do not forget, folks, that laws restricting and/or banning abortion can have serious and profoundly good effects on the abortion rate itself:

Keep it up, pro-lifers. There's still a long road ahead. But we're getting there.
