Submachine guns will make a person do crazy things!
The theft took place around 2 p.m. on May 5 at LoneStar Handgun off Amendment Way in Converse.
According to an alert the store owner sent out on Monday, the woman came in and rented a handgun to use on the firing range. A few minutes later, she rented a Heckler Koch Fully Automatic 9mm MP5, submachine gun, but instead of going out to the shooting range, she walked out of the store, hopped into a white Ford Ranger and drove off.
I'd like to believe that this woman was simply dazzled by this German piece of engineering and decided to ride off into the sunset – perhaps as a common thief, but as a common thief with the glory of concealable full auto at her side.
A weakness for fine blasters is one of the most admiral weaknesses there is!
Unfortunately, it seems there's something a bit more unnerving to the story.
The Texas driver's license given to rent the firearms was what store officials said in an alert "from someone who was killed in a car fire in December 2022." They said the woman looked similar to the woman on the ID.
So, a fake ID from someone killed in a car fire 6 months ago? A wee bit suspicious, that. You don't walk into a gun store to rent a blaster with cash using a fake ID unless you don't want your name to appear on an FBI background check.
The store is blaming Bob for the incident (I don't know the man's name, but "Bob" invokes the image of the type of man you'd want to blame).
"We have policies in place to prevent theft to include trigger locks on rentals, valid ID kept during the rental and credit card use for the transaction," store officials said in the alert. "The employee that rented her the firearms did not follow company policy and accepted cash for the rental."
Someone isn't going to be the employee of the month!
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is asking for anyone with info to call them at (210) 335-6000. Here's some photos of the robber and her getaway truck:
