Texas wants to jail and deport illegal immigrants so the Biden administration is threatening to ... well, you know
· Dec 29, 2023 · NottheBee.com

In an era when federal officials seem to really, sincerely want as many illegal immigrants in the country as humanly possible, is this all that surprising?

The Biden administration warned Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday that legal action will be taken if the state enforces a new law that allows authorities to arrest, jail, prosecute and deport migrants who enter the country illegally.

A Justice Department official said in a letter sent to Abbott that the law was unconstitutional and "contrary to the US commitment of ensuring the processing of noncitizens consistent with the Immigration and Nationality Act."

So Texas wants to jail and deport immigrants whose presence in the country is a criminal act.

They want to do this to protect Texans - you know, US citizens and their families.

But ol' King Joe doesn't like that!

Perhaps Texas wouldn't have to undertake this matter if the federal government were doing the job right! Alas, the White House seems to lack the will. Or the motivation. Or the all-around desire. I think it's probably the last one.

The Texas law, SB 4, "makes illegally entering the US from Mexico a state crime and authorizes police to arrest individuals suspected of crossing the Rio Grande between ports of entry." Immigrants caught under the law "would face a Class B misdemeanor charge carrying a punishment of up to six months in jail," with repeat offenders facing up to 20 years in prison.

The statute "allows Texas judges to drop charges against migrants if they agree to be deported."

The Biden administration has demanded that Abbott "confirm that he will not enforce the new law by Jan. 3."
