Good news guys! Climate change is now solved because The Audubon society made this creepy video of drag queen Pattie Gonia dancing around like a bird.
The short film, "Birds Tell Us: The Song of the Meadowlark" features drag queen Pattie Gonia (his real name is Wyn Wiley) dancing around in a dress that's supposed to look like a Western Meadowlark. Presumably a female one.
The Audubon Society said of the partnership,
Building inclusive spaces in the outdoors means letting people be seen, an opportunity that wasn't available to generations of LGBTQ+ folks.
Wow, I truly had no idea that LGBTQ+ people were not allowed in the outdoors in past generations. I always thought "coming out of the closet" was just a metaphor, but I guess they meant it literally all this time.
But the partnership really does make sense if you think about it - two woke causes in one, even if the two causes seem so very unrelated.
In the statement from the Audubon Society, Wyn says that,
"I'm genuinely so inspired by birds and together we could reach new audiences and queering the environmental space," says Pattie when asked about why she wanted to partner with Audubon.
Since Pattie is actually a man named Wyn by day, it's not clear why the Audubon society would use female pronouns for him, but none of this is exactly clear, so I'll let it slide.
But what exactly does it mean to "queer the environmental space"? Does it just mean allowing grown men to dress up like birds (but also women) and frolic through the fields of Nebraska?
According to the video, birds are singing to tell us about climate change. With all the chatter surrounding climate change, I would have expected the volume of the bird songs in my yard to be getting pretty out of control at this point. I'll have to listen more closely for signs of distress and get back to you.
But truly, If I have to listen to a man dressed up as a large yellow bird lecture me about climate change, I'd 100% prefer this one:
