Most of us would like to earn a little more money than we currently do, if only to be able to pay off some of those bills and have a little cushion if something comes up.
But the average American doesn't just want "a little more." They want, well, a lot:
Americans feel they'd need to earn approximately $233,000 a year on average to be secure or comfortable with their finances, a new Bankrate survey finds.
That's a ton of money. It's around $19,000 per month, which would seem, you know, like way above what the average consumer needs to be "comfortable." I mean I just gotta ask: If you're pulling down $15k every four weeks and you still don't feel "secure," what exactly are you doing?
But there's more: To consider themselves "rich" and possessing "financial freedom," the average American needs to pull down $483,000.
Are these people eating Beluga caviar three meals a day?? I gotta know!
It's worth stressing that, as Bankrate points out, "the average earnings full-time, year-round workers made in 2021" is $75,203. In other words, the average worker is making only 1/3 of what he needs to feel comfortable.
