Last night the Saints beat the Bears in the Super Wildcard weekend of the NFL playoffs. And for some reason, the NFL and CBS decided it would be a fun idea to play the game on Nickelodeon, complete with all the Nickelodeon accessories including wacky colors, animations, and even slime.
I did not watch the game live, I only watched a few highlights online, but I do think that this was a very fun and cool idea. The end zone was renamed "The Slime Zone" and animated slime would soak the field and players when a touchdown was scored. All the typical on-screen markers were replaced with Nickelodeon themed colors. It was a fun design meant to engage young kids.
As a big football fan I don't look down on this childishness. It's basically aimed at little kids who don't understand what's going on in the game and explains the game to them in a very basic way. For instance, when a penalty would be committed the TV character Young Sheldon would come on and explain what the penalty meant.
As an introduction to the game and a way to keep kids entertained, it's a fun tool.
Also, it wouldn't be Nickelodeon if there wasn't a real sliming involved. Normally the slime is a punishment for losers on Nick, but in this case, New Orleans coach Sean Payton took the slime instead of the traditional Gatorade bath.
