The British Museum needs your help after a major theft but NBC noted much of the collection was acquired under colonialism so maybe you shouldn't help after all

It can't be easy for a major institution to just publicly ask for help like this, so you know it must be bad:

The British Museum in London this week appealed to the public to help recover around 2,000 lost, stolen or damaged items from its vast collection.

Details and images were released Wednesday of the missing loot โ€” which includes jewelry and gems from the Greek and Roman eras โ€” in the hope of generating some leads on where they ended up.

The curators asked for readers to reach out to them "if you are concerned that you may be, or have been, in possession of items from the British Museum."
