Drug smuggling is getting preposterously out of hand.
Over just the last two months and 19 interceptions, the Coast Guard announced it has seized a whopping 64,000 lbs of cocaine.
64,000 LBS!
The entire haul was offloaded all at once at Port Everglades in Florida and also included 14,400 lbs of marijuana.
Rear Adm. Adam Chamie, Coast Guard Southeast District commander said, ‘To put this into perspective, the potential 23 million lethal doses of cocaine seized by the U.S. Coast Guard and our partners are enough to fatally overdose the entire population of the state of Florida, underscoring the immense threat posed by transnational drug trafficking to our nation.'
And that's on top of the 201,500 lbs of cocaine the DEA seized earlier in the year, which is roughly another 72 million lethal doses, so we can go ahead and wipe out Texas and California too.
(It's almost like the nations hosting these drug cartels have declared war on the U.S.)
This is why the cartels have been designated as terrorist organizations, and why President Trump signed an executive order green-lighting military engagement with the cartels, which has already led to an extra 4,000 military personnel deployed in the waters around South America.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement to Newsweek: ‘President Trump's top priority is protecting the homeland, which is why he took the bold step to designate several cartels and gangs as foreign terrorist organizations.'
We're not asking permission from those governments to protect our people from their cartels anymore.
