Members of Space Force will now be called "Guardians." And no other branch of the military can compete with that name.

Vice President Mike Pence revealed the Space Force moniker will be the "Guardians" which basically guarantees it will now be the coolest branch to join.

Mike Pence spoke on the name to a room of military and other government officials, saying:

"It is my honor, on behalf of the president of the United States, to announce that, henceforth, the men and women of the United States Space Force will be known as ‘guardians.' Soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and guardians will be defending our nation for generations to come."

Space Force explained that the name was chosen after a yearlong process that drew hundreds of submissions and described the history of the name:

"The opportunity to name a force is a momentous responsibility. Guardians is a name with a long history in space operations, tracing back to the original command motto of Air Force Space command in 1983, 'Guardians of the High Frontier.' "

Currently, there are 4,000 guardians in the Space Force and two Air Force stations in Florida were officially redesignated as Space Force facilities earlier this month.

There is no word yet if the leader of the Space Force will be called "Star-Lord" but one can hope.
