Yes, this is a real headline. Yes, the United States Department of Justice is suing Utah because a "woman" removed "her testicles" in the state's custody.
The Justice Department filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the state of Utah and its prison system after a transgender inmate "removed [his] own testicles" in response to "unnecessarily delayed" treatment for [his] gender dysphoria.
Translation: The federal government wants tax dollars to pay for criminals to be surgically castrated so they can wear dresses and pretend to be women ... and they're taking a state to court to ensure that happens.
The lawsuit alleges that the incarcerated transgender woman [sic] - unnamed in the complaint - was discriminated against by the Utah Department of Corrections following "multiple requests to UDOC staff for treatment for gender dysphoria, including multiple requests for hormone therapy" upon entering the state prison system in 2021.
In May of last year this unfortunate fellow "performed dangerous self-surgery and removed [his] own testicles, resulting in hospitalization and additional surgery."

The DOJ last month ruled that the state was guilty of violating the Americans with Disabilities Act over how it handled the transgender prisoner:
The department in its finding ordered UDOC to "adopt, revise, and implement relevant policies, practices, and procedures" in order to bring its practices in line with the DOJ's preferences, including "providing health care services for gender dysphoria consistent with UDOC's treatment of other medical conditions."
Both the DOJ's finding last month and its lawsuit this month seem to be a strong signal to all U.S. prisoners: Accommodate mentally ill men who believe they are women, or you'll get punished for it.
The department, meanwhile, is seeking to force Utah to further change its prison policies as well as "award compensatory damages to the inmate that removed [his] testicles."
