The moon is apparently, um, shrinking?

I wasn't aware of this and frankly could've done without knowing it, thank you very much:

The moon, Earth's closest celestial neighbor, has undergone significant changes over the last few hundred million years, and is currently shrinking in size.

A recent study reveals that the moon has shrunk by more than 150 feet in circumference, a phenomenon akin to a grape wrinkling into a raisin.

All of us upon learning that the moon is in fact getting smaller:

The moon's shrinking size "is attributed to the cooling of [its] core." And since "the moon's surface is brittle" we're seeing the formation of "faults where crustal sections collide."

The researchers say the shrinkage could have implications for future moon landings:

The potential of strong seismic events from active thrust faults should be considered when preparing and locating permanent outposts and pose a possible hazard to future robotic and human exploration of the south polar region.

Something to consider if you're planning a summer trip to the moon!
