A case in Louisiana could put the Voting Rights Act of 1965, enacted by LBJ, before the Supreme Court.
In layman's terms, the act brings racial quotas into the process of drawing congressional districts, requiring states to draw as many black-majority districts as possible, even if that means discriminating against white voters.
Here's a CNN anchor explaining the danger this poses to Democrat power in several states:
Up to this point, the act has allowed minority interest groups to sue states until districts are drawn to their liking, resulting in weirdly shaped districts connecting minority voters across hundreds of miles to boost their congressional representation: a race-based privilege not afforded to white voters.
Arguments are being heard today, and Clarence Thomas is expected to shoot this old racist law down.
There's a rally outside SCOTUS to defend the Voting Rights Act, but it seems to be attended almost entirely by elderly white people (as usual).
How about we just start treating everyone equally?
