There's precious little good news regarding the transgender zeitgeist these days, so this is very much appreciated:
The NHS's controversial child transgender clinic will shut its doors after a damning report found it was 'not safe' for children.
The gender identity service at Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust will be replaced by regional centres at existing children's hospitals, which will provide more holistic care with 'strong links to mental health services'.
It comes in response to an ongoing review led by senior paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass, who warned the clinic was 'not a safe or viable long-term option'.
Everyone who's been fighting against transgenderism for years be like:
Seriously. It's great news.
Tavistock has been butchering kids and pumping them full of hormones for years now.
This is long, long overdue.
By the way, if you haven't read the Cass report, it is indeed a withering indictment of the Tavistock clinic:
The rapid increase in the number of children requiring support and the complex case-mix means that the current clinical model, with a single national provider, is not sustainable in the longer term.
We need to know more about the population being referred and outcomes. There has not been routine and consistent data collection, which means it is not possible to accurately track the outcomes and pathways that children and young people take through the service.
There is lack of consensus and open discussion about the nature of gender dysphoria and therefore about the appropriate clinical response.
Say it with me:
This could be the start of something good!
