It's helpful, going into an election year, to see just how much the country has thrived and prospered under the leadership of Joseph R. Biden:
The number of homeless people in the US soared to 653,000 people early this year, the highest amount on record, with experts estimating that is likely an undercount.
According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, contributing factors were the drug crisis, the surge in illegal immigrants, rising housing costs, and expiring COVID aid.
Just to put it in perspective:
653,000 is about roughly the population of Boston.
Just imagine that the entire homeless population of the U.S. could effectively fill this city:
It's quite a feather for Joe Biden to have in his cap!
The figure comes after an estimated 12% spike over 2022. The number's going up quickly. There's good reason to think it will increase next year: After a relentlessly crushing year of sky-high inflation and housing costs, conditions are ripe for this situation to get even worse.
Perhaps unsurprisingly:
New York City and Los Angeles County accounted for nearly one in every four homeless people in the US in 2023. Homelessness in the Big Apple jumped 42 percent, the highest number in the US, mostly due to the surge in illegal immigrants being shipped there from the border.
Hard times for lots of people. We have a lot of hard work in front of us.
