There's a new trend of women buying hyper-realistic baby dolls known as "reborn dolls" and apparently it's big in Brazil.
That way, these women get all the social perks and adoration of motherhood without any of the responsibility.
Here are a couple of videos to show how truly realistic these things look:
They can even make alien versions for the super weirdos out there.
The dolls were originally created for grief therapy and parenting practice, but who wants to be a parent these days?
Influencers have staged situations such as birth simulations and strolls in shopping malls with the hand-crafted baby figures, known as "reborn" dolls, creating videos that have gone viral.
Responses online border from the ecstatic to the disgusting, but the really interesting responses are those from governments.
For example, in Brazil where the dolls originate, there are a few different takes on the dolls.
In Rio de Janeiro, the city council voted to honor those who created and make them.
However, the national government passed a bill that mandates detainment in a psychiatric facility for anyone who brings one of the dolls to a hospital for a "medical emergency."

One legislator wants to expand that psychiatric care to all the women participating in the fake baby fad:
Translation:
Brazilian congressman João Luiz brought a Reborn baby doll to the lower house chamber to criticize their 'virality.'
He proposed a bill to prevent the use of public benefits by those who treat dolls like real children — and suggested psychological care for these individuals.

Good luck passing a law like that in the U.S..
Given how the 2020 election went, our country would probably end up electing one of the fake babies to office instead.
