You guys, everything is fine and we have nothing to worry about. This San Francisco hardware store is just being extra cautious because of Covid or something and it can't have anything to do with the rampant shoplifting plaguing the city.
Seriously, this San Francisco hardware store has to escort customers one at a time through the store during certain hours because otherwise people will just walk in and steal whatever they want.
But please, tell me more about how crime is down and everything is just peachy.
A hardware store in San Francisco now requires customers to be escorted by an employee as they shop in the store due to 'rampant theft,' according to multiple reports.
Going forward, Frederickson Hardware and Paint will help one customer at a time in store during certain hours. Those customers will be helped by a store clerk.
Set up inside the store is a table that informs customers that they will have to wait their turn to be helped by a store employee for them to shop.
Not a joke.
The lengths people are willing to go to in order to decrease shoplifting in San Francisco are beyond parody. Like, at that point just pick up and move your store to Lake Tahoe. I'm sure there's plenty of demand there for your products. And I bet their police force actually comes out to help you when you call for help because they aren't on some equity and inclusion quota.
[Store Manager Sam] Black says over his 24 years of working at Frederickson's, the theft is the worst it has ever been. Staff has had to drill down pots and pans to keep shoplifters from swiping them. They've also had to put in locking systems to keep people from pocketing tools and other household hardware.
Black also says the store has been getting smash and grabs and it's just getting too dangerous for customers and employees. So now they're escorting customers one-by-one through the store, which is just a complete waste of time, resources, and money.
California, you're officially the laughingstock of our country (which, coincidentally, is the laughingstock of the world).
Congrats!
