There was a shooting outside of a downtown Chicago restaurant after the DNC but Illinois has passed more major gun laws than almost every state, so how is this possible?

Pass gun control laws, they said.

Your everyday law-abiding citizen will be safer.

That is, unless criminals still exist; then we might still have some trouble.

Let's check in on the nightlife after the DNC last night in gun-control central, Chicago, Illinois.

Many DNC delegates were inside the White Palace Grill during the shooting, which occurred right outside the door.

A Colorado delegate had some words:

All of us got down immediately under the tables and thought that there was somebody in the restaurant that was going to shoot every single person that was in there. That's what it felt like at the time because the shots were from within the restaurant.

This guy was literally wearing a "Freedom from gun violence" pin, which essentially means freedom to have law-abiding citizens' guns confiscated.

Bro, you're in a state that prides itself in the policies that supposedly give you "freedom" from gun violence.

Luckily, it seems only one person was shot, a 42-year-old targeted for who knows what reason.

But I can't help but look at this story and wonder why Illinois's gun control laws didn't prevent it.

Illinois has an assault weapons ban, a high-capacity magazine ban, and they've even confiscated guns from "dangerous" individuals. The state has passed the third-highest number of gun control laws in the nation.

The state has set standards on who can obtain a gun, how to carry and store them, which types of guns can be sold, and how to flag gun owners who may pose a danger to themselves or others. State law also addresses illegal gun trafficking, licensing requirements for firearms dealers, the availability of data on weapons used in crimes, and funding for gun violence prevention.

All this and still we got what could've easily become a mass shooting outside of a restaurant following the DNC โ€” an event where gun bans were spoken about openly and freely as a way to "keep us safe."

Keep us safe by restricting our access to guns while random maniacs carry them on the streets?

I don't think so, Dems.
