They're remaking Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as a gritty drama and I’m not sure anybody asked for this

Since we are out of original ideas in Hollywood for movies, it would make sense that we would also start making remakes of TV series as well.

NBC is remaking The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith's incredibly successful 90's sitcom as a gritty drama.

Who the heck asked for this?

I'll admit that this series may be "well made," but I will also contend that the entire idea is stupid.

One of the things people liked about the original series is that it dealt with issues like class and race in a humorous way, but was able to turn serious and hit you in the gut when it needed to.

The original Fresh Prince was anything but melodramatic.

This trailer seems almost like a joke. We have turned so serious and can't find humor anymore as a society. It's sad, really, to see Will Smith attach his name to this degradation of his legacy.

There's no overcoming that in what's sure to be a huge flop.
