There are a two places I can think of that most people would not want to break into. One of those is a jail, and the other is an escape room. Regardless of what I think, and disregarding all common wisdom, two thieves in the Netherlands recently broke into an escape room, making for a hilarious story.
Upon entering, the thieves immediately went for a safe and took a considerable amount of time trying to get it open. Or course, the safe was just part of the escape room story and when they finally opened it (the key was hidden around the corner) they discovered only riddles and clues to help them get out of the room, reports DUIC.
Anna-Maria Giannattasio, the owner of the venue, says this is not the first burglary they've had to deal with. Vandalism has also been a recurring issue. "It is especially annoying that we have to deal with these kinds of matters. Such cowardly action in difficult COVID times will only bring us destruction and sorrow," she says. The thieves did walk away with cash (10€), a camera (€400), candy and soft drinks.
Giannattasio questioned the thieves' ability to actually escape as guests, saying:
"I'm curious whether those bunglers would be able to escape at all if they were inside as a guest, but 60% of the visitors to our Mysterium escape room escaped and these were certainly not smart people."
For the record, my escape room track record indicates that I would be among the 40% unable to escape.
