This 100-year-old Brazilian gentleman just cracked a world record by working at the same company for 84 straight years ✊

Some people go for world records by seeing how many marshmallows they can fit in their mouths. Others try to land the biggest fish or bag the biggest rhino. Still others go for the longest cross-country trek on foot.

And then there's the true strivers, the ones who... hold down a decent job at the same firm for over 80 years:

Walter Orthmann (Brazil) has been working at the same company for 84 years and 9 days, as verified on 6 January 2022.

His passion, discipline and commitment motivated him to keep doing what he loves and, eventually, become an official Guinness World Records title holder for the longest career in the same company.

Try and top that! The esteemed gentleman actually came into the job due to unexpected necessity when he was 15 years old:

[D]ue to financial problems at home, he began to work to help his family. He went to the weaving mill with his mom to apply for a job, and, because of his strong proficiency in German, he was hired. He has worked at the same company, ReneauxView, ever since.

After getting his first position as a shipping assistant, Walter showed outstanding skills and willingness to learn, always doing more than expected.

Shortly after, he was promoted to a position in sales. Then, he became a successful Sales Manager.

That's dedication and tenacity for you. Here's the man himself at his office, possibly in the late 1970s or 1980s—my money is on 1985, given that the one lady's belt looks to be about seven inches wide.

Let's all take inspiration from Walter and put in our best at work every day! Not necessarily for 84 years at the same place, but still.
