This 96-year-old man survived four Holocaust concentrations camps and USSR rule only to be killed by the Russian invasion

My goodness what a travesty.

Putin has been repeating the rhetoric of leftist leaders in the West, claiming he's fighting against Nazism.

Guess that includes [checks notes] survivors of the Holocaust. Per Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba:

More from CNN:

Romanchenko's death was confirmed by the Buchenwald concentration camp memorial institute in a series of tweets.

Romanchenko survived the camps at Buchenwald, Peenemünde, Dora and Bergen-Belsen during World War II, the memorial said, adding that it was "stunned" by news of his death.

It said Romanchenko worked "intensively on the memory of Nazi crimes and was vice-president of the Buchenwald-Dora International Committee."

His granddaughter confirmed that his apartment building in the eastern city of Kharkiv was hit during a Russian strike.

Think about it. Romanchenko survived the USSR-imposed Holodomor famine to starve the Ukrainians into submission. He then survived four Nazi camps and lived beyond the post-war Iron Curtain, living through Soviet rule and the eventually dissolution of the USSR.

And that only brings us to 30 years ago.

To see someone who has experienced so much be taken out in such a gross, violent fashion is terrible.

War is hell.
