This dude got 31 years for breaking into celebrities' homes in Los Angeles. You'll never guess how he did it.

Crime in Los Angeles is so outta control that perps are coming up with genius new ways to steal and destroy.

Take the case of Benjamin Ackerman.

While most garden-variety criminals are busy turning LA into a zombie wasteland, Ackerman and his accomplice found a way to target the super-rich folks who can afford security and protection:

A Log Angeles thief has been sentenced to 31 years behind bars for masterminding burglaries of the rich and famous by posing as a real estate agent.

Ackerman was pretending to sell houses in order to break into them. Apparently that's something you can do in Los Angeles and get away with it.

He "was sentenced Wednesday for his role in stealing millions of dollars' worth of jewelry, designer purses, shoes and artwork from celebrity victims including Usher and Adam Lambert," the Daily Mail reports.

The perp reportedly posed "as a realtor to gain a closer look at the homes," doing so while "dressed to the nines."

( It is Los Angeles, after all.)

Among the reported takes included jewelry, Louis Vuitton merch, and a signed photo of Freddie Mercury from Adam Lambert's home:

The crook reportedly teamed up with co-conspirator Jason Yaselli, who is currently undergoing criminal proceedings over the scheme.

Vet your real estate agents, folks — anyone can put on a slick jacket and claim to be one!
