This Florida man spent hours digging a beach trench in the sand connecting a canal and the sea.

When the two bodies of water were connected, a nice trickle of water began to flow. Spectators politely applauded his efforts.

Then the water flow began to increase, as the smaller body began to empty into the larger. Before anyone knew what was happening, there was a raging rip current, completely isolating the two sides of the beach.

Police had to step in and try to keep people safe.
