This Japanese toothpaste commercial had to be pulled because it sounded like a national emergency alert

Not often you see this.

A toothpaste commercial in Japan had to be pulled from the air because it made the same sound as a national emergency alert which signifies a missile attack.

Here's the commercial in question:

Seems innocent enough, until you hear the country's emergency J-Alert warning system:

Yup, that's pretty much the same sound!

Which begs the question: How did the toothpaste company think people were going to enjoy their product when the ad reminded them of a missile attack? I mean, going to the dentist? Sure, that should come with the sound of a missile attack. But cleaning your teeth so you don't have to visit the dentist? That should sound more like Love and Happiness.

A Japanese toothpaste commercial was pulled off the air because it accidentally made people think they were facing a national emergency. Lion Corporation, a major household goods manufacturer, debuted the commercial for its Systema Gum Plus Premium Toothpaste …

However, the sound effect at the beginning of the ad sounds similar to the J-Alert warning system.

The early warning system is used for serious threats, like natural disasters or missile attacks.

So next time you're brushing your teeth in Japan make sure to keep an ear out for those incoming ICBMs.
