To those who said this boycott wouldn't work: What say you now?
The latest numbers are in, and the folks over at Anheuser-Busch may wanna look away. According to Beer Business Daily, Bud Light's off-premise sales volume — the amount of beer sold outside of restaurants and bars — was down 26.1% from a year earlier in the week ending in April 22.
That's not just a drop in sales, that's a split-down-the-middle-and-come-crashing-to-earth.
These figures include grocery stores, liquor stores, gas stations, and convenience stores — basically everywhere you might pick up a six-pack of Bud Light for the cookout or the big game.
Bud Light decided to back a dangerous, indefensible, destructive ideology. They did it by picking one of the most intolerable and unlikable practitioners of this awful stuff. It's no great shock that people revolted against it.
Fortunately, it was enough people to send a message like this. As Beer Business Daily put it:
We've never seen such a dramatic shift in national share in such a short period of time.
