This legendary pooch scaled England's tallest mountain and got stuck so a dozen people had to carry him down on a stretcher

I've never woken up and said to myself, "Today might be the day that I climb the tallest mountain in England, zip up a pooch in a rescue duffel bag, and haul it back down."

But there are people whose job honestly consists of saying that very thing:

A 13-strong rescue team has rescued an "injured and exhausted" dog from England's highest mountain in an operation lasting more than four hours.

According to rescuers, the 33-kilogram (73-pound) pooch was "refusing to move" from Scafell Pike, located in the Lake District national park, northwestern England, on Saturday.

"Thirteen strong?" They sent thirteen people out to rescue one dog?? Well, look, I won't try and second-guess an industry I don't really know anything about. But that does seem like a lot of people for one pooch.

In fairness, 73 pounds is pretty heavy. I guess you need relays. And in an environment like that it's better to have too many hands than too few.

The whole rescue took a little over four hours. The dog, meanwhile, seemed inordinately pleased with itself:

As the rescuers put it:

"The casualty remained cool, calm and positively regal throughout."

Good job to everyone, the dog included.
