On Friday night James Pulliam, of Roxboro, North Carolina, found himself in the fight of a lifetime while taking a smoke break outside his apartment.
"I felt something watching me," Pulliam told the local ABC news affiliate, "like he was hunting me or something."
Pulliam was right, and moments later a coyote would emerge from the woods near his smoke spot and attack.
He first kicked at the coyote, and threw some rocks at it while backing up and then tumbling to the ground. Once on the ground, the real attack began, and Pulliam feared for his life.
Eventually, he'd turn the brawl into a UFC fight, and choke the life out of the dog (after first trying his best to intimidate it with yelling, of course).

I had to rip my left hand out of his mouth, and when I got my left hand out, I just choked him all the way till the police got there.

James had to receive a rabies shot, which he said hurt more than the attack. The animal will also be tested for the virus as a precaution.
