This poor lady was declared dead three years ago, and she can't convince the courts to overturn the decision despite being very much alive.

Jeanne Pouchain is legally dead. And being officially dead is causing her all kinds of problems.

The 58-year-old French woman was the subject of an insanely complex series of legal errors which ended with a Lyon court deciding in 2017 that she was dead. But no one let her know that. There isn't even a certificate of death.

So for the past three years, Pouchain has been fighting the courts to reverse the decision, but they have stubbornly declined to admit their error even when the evidence is literally standing right in front of them.

Live shot of Pouchain's lawyer trying to unravel this mess:

Being among the living dead has had some serious consequences too. The worst being that she isn't even able to access her own bank accounts. She's already had her car repossessed and fears they will be coming for the furniture next.

Here's what she had to say about it to the Associated Press,

"I no longer exist," Pouchain said by telephone. "I don't do anything....I sit on the veranda and write." She called the situation "macabre."

It's such a messed up situation that even her lawyer struggled to believe she was telling the truth about it when she first approached him.

"At first, I had a hard time believing my client," he said.

With all the crazy things going on in the world, imagine having to deal with a situation like this on top of it all?

What a time to be dead.
