Dima Nova, a Russian pop star who founded the group called Cream Soda was found dead from drowning in a frozen river after he rose to fame criticizing Russia's leader Vladimir Putin.

According to Newsweek, the singer's group announced on social media that the star had died over the weekend in what they call a "tragedy."

"We had a tragedy last night. Our Dima Nova, in the company of friends, was walking along the Volga and fell under the ice. The Ministry of Emergency Situations are still looking for his brother Roma and friend, Gosha Kiselev. Aristarchus, our friend who also fell under the ice, was caught, but could not be saved. As soon as we have information from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, we will inform you," the group wrote in the caption.

The singer and his friends fell into the river and got trapped under the ice. It's not clear from this statement how this accident occurred, or how everyone fell into the river, which is leading to speculation about possible shenanigans.

The group also happened to write a song in 2017, before they hit it big, that referenced drowning in the Volga river.

Cream Soda became icons of the anti-war movement when comedian Alexander Gudkov used one of their songs to poke fun at Putin who had been accused of building an opulent $1.3 billion mansion near Gelendzhik on Russia's southern Black Sea coast using the proceeds of corruption.

The group's anti-Putin songs have become anthems in anti-Russia protests.

Anti-Putin, anti-war, and now, sadly, the leader of the group has now passed away under suspicious circumstances.
