You know, I don't want to keep hammering home just how much better dogs are compared to cats. I really hate harping on that sort of thing.
And thanks to this heroic story, I really don't have to!
Escaped homicide suspect Michael C. Burham has been taken into custody, the Pennsylvania State Police confirmed Saturday evening, ending a nine-day manhunt that began July 6 when Burham escaped the Warren County Prison using a rope made of bedsheets tied together.
A nine-day stretch is a long time for a murder suspect to be out and about. They usually catch them quicker than that. Perps are usually tired, hungry, stressed and desperate, and that makes them dumb.
But this guy managed to stay on the lam for more than a week. So what was his ultimate downfall?
The tip came from a Warren County resident, who, while checking to see why his dog was barking at the rear of his property, encountered Burham.
The dog in question was a chocolate lab named Tucker:
The good boy succeeded where the entire state trooper bureau had struggled, and yet he still seems so modest! What a specimen.
The family will be given $2,000 courtesy of Warren County Crime Stoppers. Tucker's owners, meanwhile, told media that the pup will be treated to "a big steak dinner" in appreciation for his public service.
