This young fisherman reeled in a wallet containing $2,000 cash and then returned it to the owner who had lost it in the lake a year prior

Okay, this is a great story.

Its star: 14-year-old Connor Halsa, who was on a family fishing trip on Lake of the Woods in Minnesota near the Canadian border.

Kid's out fishing and hooks a big one — and I mean big, like he thought he had the catch of the day, possibly the weekend.

"I thought I had a huge fish, so I set the hook really hard," Connor told WDAY.

When he finally reeled that bad boy in, he realized it was no fish at all; it was a wallet — a wallet packed to the gills with $2,000 in cold hard cash.

Seriously, this kid reeled in a wallet that'd been sitting at the bottom of Lake of the Woods for an entire year.

And I love this — this kid's a genuine hero:

"My dad said we should give it to the person, and I said we should, too," Connor said.

Connor and his family found a business card inside the wallet. They made the call that would lead to Jim Denney, an Iowa farmer who was fishing on Lake of the Woods a year prior when he dropped his wallet overboard…

Denny made the trip from Iowa to Moorhead, where he met the Halsa family and even offered to give Connor money, but the teen turned him down.

Now that's great sportsmanship!

Here's a photo of the two fisherman:

That's a custom cooler Mr. Denney gifted Connor. He also took Connor's family out to dinner as a thank you.

Man, I love a great story like this.

Though I do have one question:

For what reason would someone be carrying $2,000 in their wallet while fishing Lake of the Woods? Like, was he using the hundos as bait? I need answers!

Either way, great story, and a great day on the lake for our star, Connor Halsa.

I'll leave this here for you:
