An Ohio doctor who rose to fame on TikTok as "Dr. Roxy" had her medical license revoked this week because of her live streaming of surgeries on the social media app.
The Ohio Medical Board stripped Dr. Katharine Grawe of her medical credentials and ability to practice in the state because she violated patient privacy and generally practiced disastrously bad medical ethics by live-streaming surgeries on TikTok.
During these streams, the doctor would often interact with viewers and answer questions live WHILE IN SURGERY!
Grawe pleaded with the board, saying she won't let it happen again, but it wasn't enough to change their minds.
"We've seen an extreme lack of professionalism. Her posts are done as a marketing ploy," the board member said. "Dr. Grawe's social media was more important to her than the lives of the patients she treated."
What kind of person, a doctor, would stream their surgeries live like this? What kind of society would indulge someone so obsessed with becoming a social media star?
Grawe was warned about this practice as early as 2018 and three of her patients suffered injuries requiring further medical follow-up after Grawe's surgeries.
One woman who was shown on a live stream had her intestine perforated by Dr. Grawe and had to receive life-saving care a week after the surgery.
The unnamed patient suffered severe damage to and bacterial infections in her abdomen, as well as loss of brain function from the amount of toxins in her blood, according to the notice.
Good on Ohio for taking away this woman's license.
