TIME names Simone Biles "Athlete of the Year" and I thought that was the chick who walked away from the Olympics

Okay, I'm not sure how anything works anymore…

I'm sorry, but this is the same woman who dropped out of the Olympics, isn't it? As far as I can remember, this wasn't political either. She simply dropped out due to mental health issues, which is just fine. I'm totally cool with that.

But for TIME to name her "Athlete of the Year," that's just shameful.

If 2020 showcased the power of athletes as activists after the murder of George Floyd, this year demonstrated how athletes are uniquely positioned to propel mental health to the forefront of a broader cultural conversation.

Umm... okay.

If I were her, I'd have spoken up and said, "No, not doing this."

But look at her face in the TIME cover photo:

Extra serious!!

But somehow TIME went through with this, because these days the Clown World always reigns supreme.

There are several athletes who deserved this award more than Simone Biles, but I will only note one—the most renowned athlete of our time:
