The man's still got it.
"Top Gun: Maverick" is the first movie starring Tom Cruise to draw $65 million on the opening day domestic box office. The film received $124 million over the weekend in the U.S. and $248 million worldwide.
This is a pretty remarkable feat considering the blockbuster films in which Cruise has starred, including the absolute BANGER "Mission: Impossible" series.
"The film debuted 28% above Cruise's last big hit, 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout' in 2018," Axios reports.
Judging from review data on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, it seems the film has "Generally favorable reviews" from critics, and "Universal acclaim" from the general audience.
Why is this film performing so well at the box office?
Does this movie lecture us about how rAcisT, misOgYnisTiC, and hOmOpHoBiC we are? Hmm, no, I don't think that's it...
