There's a new Santa in town, and his name is Mel Gibson.
This holiday season we can all look forward to what is sure to become an annual tradition of watching "Fatman," the gritty, violent action movie about a spoiled kid who puts out a hit on Santa Claus after receiving coal for Christmas.
No, I am not making up that plot. Check out the trailer.
Having watched the trailer I'm not sure whether or not this is meant to be a straight-up comedy, but I certainly did laugh out loud through the entire thing.
I am also having a hard time believing it's really real.
Mel Gibson plays a Santa Claus who is grizzled and cynical, it seems like the people have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. Kris Kringle continues his duties but in doing so makes an enemy of what seems to be a spoiled rich child with the resources to hire a hitman to travel to the North Pole and "bring back Santa's beard."
This movie looks to have everything you look for in a Christmas movie: Violent shootouts, spoiled children, hitmen, language, reindeer, elves, Mel Gibson getting too old for this [flowerbed]. Really it's the whole package.
It may not be the Christmas movie we asked for or the one we need, but in 2020 this is no doubt the Christmas movie that we deserve.
