Meet Ruby Corado, a dude who thinks he's a lady and who stole a huge Covid check before skipping out of the country.
Ruby founded Casa Ruby which was an LGBT Youth non-profit (by name, of course) and as soon he got Covid money under false pretenses, as many others have, he absconded with $150k according to prosecutors and went back home to El Salvador.
But maybe Bukele was a little scarier than the US authorities.
Ruby Corado, 53, the founder of Casa Ruby, Inc., was arrested by FBI agents at a hotel in Laurel, Maryland, on Tuesday after unexpectedly returning to the U.S. from her native El Salvador.
Corado sold her home in Prince Georges County two years ago and fled to El Salvador when questions were being raised about financial irregularities at the non-profit. The non-profit had shuttered its transitional housing, failed to pay its employees and faced eviction from multiple properties for failure to pay rent.
Ruby decided either that the heat was off, or that he didn't like El Salvador with its recent changes, and foolishly came back to the US where he was promptly arrested.
Prosecutors hit her with charges including bank fraud, wire fraud, laundering of monetary instruments, monetary transactions in criminally derived proceeds and failure to file a report of a foreign bank account. Corado is being held pending a detention hearing on Friday.
It's always the ones you most suspect isn't it?
I mean, who would have thought this dude who had deluded himself and others into thinking he was a woman wouldn't be completely trustworthy?
Corado is alleged to have stolen at least $150k of the more than $1 million in Covid funds given to the non-profit.
This is just $150,000 out of more than $2 billion in Covid money given to scammers.
