Kamala Harris is eager to set up a vice presidential debate with Trump's new VP pick J.D. Vance. She has agreed to three potential dates: July 23, August 12, or August 13.
But the Trump-Vance campaign has declined to agree to any of the dates.
Their reason?
'We don't know who the Democratic nominee for vice president is going to be, so we can't lock in a date before their convention,' said Brian Hughes, a Trump campaign senior adviser.
Hughes said scheduling a vice-presidential debate right now would be unfair to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer - 'or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate.'
Priceless!
Once again, the Democrats' lack of a sense of humor seemed to get in the way of responding with any credibility, instead they attacked Vance on his refusal to commit.
'Donald Trump is the one whose campaign said he would debate "anytime, anyplace'"and who picked JD Vance specifically for his debating skills,' Harris campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said. 'Now suddenly right after a damning new leak showing his support for a nationwide abortion ban, Vance is backing off a debate against Vice President Harris, who has spent the last two years prosecuting the case on behalf of reproductive freedom.
'If JD Vance is unwilling to defend the Trump-Vance record on the debate stage, he should just say so.'
The Democratic convention isn't even until August 19, and there's all kinds of uncertainty about whether Biden even makes it until then, but the Democrats probably want to see how Kamala fares against Vance.
Especially since she lost her last debate to the fly on Mike Pence's head.
