United States posts record third-quarter GDP growth, but hey, look at Trump’s playlist!

The U.S. this morning demonstrated further progress towards digging itself out of the lockdown hole it found itself in by posting record GDP growth.

This sounds like pretty important news, particularly to the millions of Americans still struggling to recover. But not quite important enough to break into MSNBC's "Understand today's news" list.

You know what's really important? The playlist Trump plays at his rallies.

Why, it's baffling!

"The crowds, for all their mean-spirited energy ready for Trump's cue, are genuinely having a good time listening to it"

Here is an example of the mean-spirited energy of a crowd in Michigan earlier this week.

You can almost feel the hatred and resentment pouring through the screen, thinly veiled by their enjoyment.

"Scrolling through the playlist yields a collection of songs that to the untrained eye make absolutely no sense when lined up together.

Everything you learned about making mixtapes from building the perfect flow of songs for your friends or your crush? Out the window here."

This is WAY more important than news that affects the lives of everyday Americans worried about keeping their home.

"…maybe just a song that Trump likes, or maybe just one he knows you like, since that's what Trump's playlist is all about."

Playing songs people will like? Innovative. (Note to self: Do not let Hayes Brown put together your wedding playlist.)

"That's not to say the playlist features only songs from before the Clinton administration. You'll also find crowd-pleasers like the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" and "Don't Stop the Music" by Rihanna, neither of which really have anything to do with the rallies' substance."

Do you know any really good trade policy songs? What about something from the ever popular tariff genre? Or those concept albums from the ‘90s about monetary policy?

"And, for some reason that I can't quite understand, Linkin Park's ‘In the End' is near the top of the playlist."

It's a good song? Just spitballin' here.

"Far be it from me, who has no real experience running political campaigns…"

Pro tip: When you get to the part of your piece where you write that? You stop writing.

"I will think back fondly on is this absolutely bonkers playlist. Much like the campaign that designed it, it is mendacious, glib, vacuous and aimed at the lowest common denominator — but at least you can dance to it."

You know, stuff the deplorables enjoy, and perhaps listen to while celebrating America's record GDP growth.
