Larian Studios showcased its upcoming Baldur's Gate III video game at its aptly-named Panel From Hell presentation on July 7, including a romance cutscene of your character having gay sex with another character that turns into a bear.
The furries rejoice!
"Have you ever considered the joys and pleasures of sexual congress with a wildshaped Druid?" Adam Smith, a lead writer on Baldur's Gate 3, said in a press release. "Because at Larian, we have, and ultimately landed on the side of giving the people what they want: tender, consensual romance with a man temporarily transformed into a grizzly bear."
I didn't watch the clip, for obvious reasons, so here's a description from someone else who did:
"The player (controlling the vampire Astarion as their main character), approaches Halsin in a discrete area of the woods," Kotaku reports. "As things start to get hot and heavy, he strips and things seem to be taking their natural course. Then, Halsin loses control of himself and transforms into his bear form. He quickly reverts to human forms and apologizes. Sometimes this happens when he's giving in to his base desires."
"During the presentation, Larian was letting the live audience make decisions for the dialogue they would pick and demonstrate on stream, and they found the bear form tantalizing and encouraged Halsin to turn back. It took some persuasion ... Nevertheless, they persisted, and Baldur's Gate 3 let Astarion [have sex with] a bear on stream."
Larian's director of publishing said TikTok "canceled" the stream on its platform because "it was too artistic and they don't understand."
It seems like the shock value paid off.
After the livestream, Baldur's Gate III jumped 70 places on video game marketplace Steam's Best Sellers list, peaking at No.4 according to CBR.
The game releases August 3 in case you need something to boycott this fall.
