Virgin Airlines rolls out new gender-neutral uniforms complete with skirts for men and pronoun tags because equity or something

I honestly don't understand the world we currently live in.

Like, what is this?

Virgin is so proud of its new gender identity policy that they/them released this video in honor of all 2,721 genders:

How very progressive of Virgin Airlines!

I see men in skirts, women in suits, and even a few genderless people wearing whichever uniform suits them. Can't wait to never fly Virgin Airlines ever again!

Here's Virgin with some deets:

  • Virgin Atlantic announces an update to its gender identity policy and removes requirement for its people to wear gendered uniform options
  • The policy, effective today, champions the individuality of Virgin Atlantic's people by enabling them to wear the clothing that expresses how they identify or present themselves. This follows previous changes including optional make up and allowing visible tattoos for crew members and its front line people
  • In addition to the policy, wider updates include the introduction of optional pronoun badges, ticketing system amends to allow for passport holders with gender neutral gender markers to use their gender codes and titles, mandatory inclusivity training for staff and training in destination with tourism and hotel partners
  • It comes as research* finds that allowing staff to embrace their individuality at work increases mental wellbeing (49%), feelings of happiness (65%) and creates a better experience for staff and customers (24%)

So that's really cool for them that they're doing this and making their staff "happy."

And the pronoun badges are just the cherry on top!

Seriously though, in real life this stuff just comes off completely awkward to the customer, which is what really matters in business.

Sure, those actors in the video can "pull off" the gender-bending stuff on camera.

But what you'll see on the plane in real life will look something more like Rachel Levine.

And we all know how awkward that is.

So keep on keeping on with the progress, Virgin Airlines.

It's only a matter of time before your progressive policies are not enough and you'll have to bend the genders even further than you already have.
