It's an all too common tragic story. Virginia man Joshua Corbett Coleman suspected his wife of having an affair, and after a heated argument, he went to another room, grabbed a gun, and shot her dead.

Then he loaded his two kids into the car and drove off.

Coleman figured he was about to spend a long time in jail, so he decided to display his ignorance of the distinction between "crime of passion" and "premeditated murder" by offing a guy he didn't like while he was at it.

According to a criminal complaint reviewed by WDBJ7 news,

Coleman said he knew he was going to jail, so he wanted to kill [William Leroy] Morey as well and went looking for him.

Morey was a 68-year-old man and was unrelated to the couple. Coleman apparently went to Morey's home, didn't find him, then went to another home where he used either his handgun or AR-15 to kill Morey.

The documents do not provide the motive for the murder, just that Coleman really wanted him dead.

I guess he figured he might as well make the most of his situation.

WDBJ7 spoke with a neighbor on Meeks Road on Wednesday who did not wish to appear on camera. The neighbor said he was the one who initially called 911. He said he was outside taking a break from mowing when he saw two vehicles pull up and less than a minute later he heard multiple shots ring out.

The neighbor said he initially thought the shots had been fired at an animal, but he later walked over and found Morey's body outside.

It's a good thing they caught him when they did. Who knows how far someone with that kind of sick mindset could have gone?

Coleman is facing two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of shooting from a moving vehicle, and two counts of child abuse and neglect.

He is being held without bond (because duh).
