A viral video posted to TikTok shows a Waffle House cook standing outside, refusing to cook for some hungry customers. Rather than go somewhere else to eat, the hungry crew went inside and cooked their own food.

In commentary on the video, they laugh about nearly burning their waffles in the process, then take the food back to their hotel and eat it all.

While this makes for a light-hearted video, what's really demonstrative of the state of affairs in our country is that having to make your own food at a Waffle House is starting to be a common occurrence.

It's not all bad though. Sometimes customers pitch in at the Waffle House just to be kind to the overwhelmed employees:

I guess the point is that times are tough, and sometimes you really, really need a waffle.
