Washington DC council votes to increase tourism tax in order to boost tourism

In a clear example of how politicians think, the Washington D.C. city council voted to increase the tourism tax on hotels by 1% in order to raise money to boost tourism.

The tourism tax on hotels is already at a whopping 15%, and the increase will raise it to 16%.

According to district leaders the tax is needed to replace city income used for advertising that was lost during the pandemic when they locked down everything and required vaccination to step foot in a building.

Well, except that one time the mayor wanted to celebrate her birthday.

I can't believe no one wanted to visit.

Of course, the D.C. council thinks all their issues are because they need more money.

The annual budget for D.C selling itself is only $26 million, but they would like to compete in tourism dollars with a place like Las Vegas, which spends $150 million selling itself.

You know, when I'm trying to decide where best to tour moral corruption, deciding between Sin City or the seat of our federal government is always a tough choice.

On the other hand, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. What happens in D.C. tends to overflow and ruin all our lives, so there's that.

Also, there's this new tax in D.C. discouraging me from visiting.

Maybe I'll just go camping instead of either option.
