I have never seen anything like this in my life.

A cargo ship crashed into the Francis Scott Key in Baltimore during the dead of the night, causing the entire bridge to collapse.

The cargo ship on the left of your screen ran directly into one of the bridge's supports and completely destroyed the bridge immediately upon impact.

Updates have been coming out since the accident at 1:37 AM this morning and rescuers and officials still have no idea how many people were on the bridge when it collapsed, how many vehicles are in the water, or how many construction workers were on the bridge at the time of the collapse.

This update is from 7:03 AM from NBC:

Sonar has been used to detect the presence of vehicles submerged in the water after the bridge collapse this morning, but emergency crews don't have a count of exactly how many yet, Baltimore City Fire Department Chief James Wallace said in his briefing with reporters.

Wallace said there were likely multiple people on the bridge at the time of the collapse, and as a result, likely multiple people in the water.

Crews are still very much in an active search and rescue stage, Wallace added, and will continue to be for some time, searching both above and below water, as well as on the deck of the ship that hit the bridge.

So, really we have no official word yet, but it is almost certainly a mass casualty event.

We only know of 7 missing individuals for sure, but there could be many more.

An absolute tragedy.
