Watch: Amazing footage shows human chain of lifeguards saving swimmer from riptide

Lifeguards are like seatbelts: You only fully appreciate them when you need them.

And man, this Florida swimmer needed lifeguards — and they came right on through for him:

Joseph Osborne was flying his drone over the water off Flagler Beach in Florida when he spotted lifeguards forming a human chain to rescue a boogie boarder who had drifted too far from the shore.

The video shows the lifeguards extending out using orange buoys and forming a human chain to rescue the boogie boarder who had been pulled by a current and ended up floating too far from shore.

The beach's "ocean rescue director" said the swimmer wasn't actually drowning at the time but rather just "couldn't get back in."

I'm not trying to be obtuse here — I mean I know I'm not a lifeguard — but when it comes down to "drowning" and being unable to return safely to the shore, I feel like, ultimately:

Well, either way, the guy got back in safely. Well done, Florida lifeguards!
